Significance of Balak Ram

The name Balak Ram translates to “Child Ram,” portraying Lord Ram as a five year old in a standing posture. This choice of name was explained by Arun Dixit, a priest associated with the consecration ceremony, who mentioned that the Ram Lalla idol resembles a child of five years.

This endearing depiction adds a new dimension to the devotees connection with the divine, emphasizing the innocence and purity associated with childhood.

Craftsmanship and Material of Balak Ram

Sculptor Arun Yogiraj used a three billion year old rock for the creation of the Balak Ram idol, showcasing his dedication to both art and history. The azure colored Krishna Shile (black schist) used for sculpting was extracted from Gujjegowdanapura in Jayapura Hobli, HD Kote Taluk of Mysuru.

This metamorphic rock, known as soapstone, with its smooth surface texture, is ideal for carving idols.

Adornments of Balak Ram

The Balak Ram idol is adorned with Banarasi fabric, wearing a yellow dhoti and a red ‘pataka’ or ‘angavastram.’ The ‘angavastram’ is embellished with pure gold ‘zari’ and threads, featuring auspicious Vaishnav symbols such as ‘shankh,’ ‘padma,’ ‘chakra’ and ‘mayur.’

These intricate details add a touch of grandeur and divine symbolism to the idol.

Pran Pratishtha Ceremony of Ayodhya Ram Mandir

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the grand ceremony of pran pratishtha for Lord Ram Lalla on 22 January 2024, marking a historic moment in the journey of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.
