The Hindu American Car Rally in Houston is a first of its kind, saw over 500 Indian-Americans participating in a 3-mile-long line of 216 cars, adorned with saffron banners featuring images of the Ram Mandir, the Indian flag, and the US flag.

The procession covered 100 miles across Houston’s busy roadways, making stopovers at eleven temples over a six-hour period.

The rally commenced at Sri Meenakshi Temple, led by Houston philanthropist Jugal Malani, and concluded at Sri Sharad Amba Temple in Richmond. Along the way, participants sang bhajans and chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram,’ creating a festive atmosphere.

The event also involved a truck leading the procession and was escorted by eight policemen on bikes.

The temples visited during the rally received formal invitations from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America to attend the consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla, scheduled on 22 January 2024. They presented temple officials with a beautifully crafted invitation basket containing formal invitations, sacred rice from Ayodhya, ‘Ram Parivar,’ ‘Gangajal,’ a copy of Sundar Kand (of Ramayana), and some sweets.

The rally attracted nearly 2,000 devotees, both young and old, who welcomed the procession with bhajans at the temples. The chants of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and the sounds of conches(Shankh) created a sensory overload for those present, highlighting the immense devotion and love for Lord Shri Ram.

Kusum Vyas, the founder of the Living Planet Foundation, described the experience as a perspective shared with fellow Ram ‘bhakts.’
